Dr. Vazquez is a private practice general surgeon at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The private practice structure facilitates attention to detail and personal one-on-one patient interaction. In addition, Dr. Vazquez provides private practice general surgical care to patients as a geographical full-time faculty member (Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery) at the prestigious Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Vazquez is an active member of the American College of Phlebology and theAmerican Venous Forum.
Dr. Vazquez served as Chief Medical Officer of the Illinois State Police from 1988 to June, 2002. During this time, he acted as the professional medical advocate for all state troopers, code personnel and their families.
There are some general surgical procedures that Dr. Vazquez does not perform. For example, while treats disorders of the leg veins, he does not treat arterial disease. His talented vascular surgical colleagues at Northwestern Memorial Hospital comprise a nationally recognized vascular surgery service that performs arterial operations. Please visit our general surgery web site at gensurg.com to view a presentation of some of the general surgical procedures that we perform.
Dr. Vazquez began to focus more of his professional time on the care of patients with venous disorders 25 years ago. At that time Dr. Vazquez was dispatched by the medical practice committee of The Chicago Medical Society to investigate the validity of sclerotherapy for the treatment of varicose veins. Dr. Vazquez noted that there was more than sufficient scientific literature and clinical experience with sclerotherapy to validate its use for treatment of varicose vein disorders.
Dr. Vazquez has treated varicose veins with minimally invasive surgical techniques such as PIN Stripping and micro-incision phlebectomy for 15 years. We added vein closure to our vein treatment procedures in 2001. About that same time, we began performing ultrasound guided sclerotherapy treatments for varicose veins and Venous Duplex imaging studies for his patients with venous disorders. We now frequently perform all of these procedures for our patients.
